Buy a Toy Instead of Paying Your Boston Parking Ticket
December 1, 2010
This is kind of cool. Between December 1st and December 3rd, 2010, if you receive a parking ticket from the City of Boston, you may be able to settle the ticket by simply bringing a toy to the city’s Parking Clerk to be donated to the Toys for Tots program. Specifically, anyone who receives a non-public safety parking ticket in the city of Boston can resolve their ticket by providing a toy of equal or greater value than the ticket fine.
There are some “catches” to this program. Certain public safety violations are excluded for example such as: HP Ramp, HP-DV Parking Only, FIre Hydrant, Crosswalk, Double Parking, Fire Lane Less than 20 Feet From An Intersection, and No Stopping/Standing. “WHAT??? You mean I can’t double park and run in to get my Peppermint Frapoccino” from Starbucks???
Drivers (or scofflaws), would have from Monday, December 6th through December 10th to turn in the toys. Last year the program brought in more than $3,000 worth of toys to be distributed to children in need.
The toys can be brought to Boston City Hall on the second floor in front of the parking clerk’s office. There will be someone sitting at a table collecting the toys. They can also be dropped off at the Boston City Tow Lot located at 200 Frontage Road. Receipts will be required with the toys to show that it is of equal or greater value than the ticket.
